Seeing Tsuen Wan’s Food Stories from Above the Footbridges

Every day, countless people move through Tsuen Wan’s interconnected footbridges. If we are willing to slow down, these walkways no longer have to be just passages from one place to another—they can become public spaces where people pause, observe, and find moments of connection.

As a supporting organisation of the “Savour Tsuen Wan: A Skywalk of Flavour & Culture”, Chinachem Group invited local award winning illustrator Pearl Law to transform everyday stories from across the Tsuen Wan community into a series of illustrations, exhibited along the Tai Ho Road footbridges.

Savour Tsuen Wan: A Skywalk of Flavour & Culture

For this exhibition, Pearl draws inspiration from places familiar to Tsuen Wan residents, such as Tsuen Wan Town Hall, Sai Lau Kok Garden, Heung Che Street Market and Sam Tung Uk Museum, translating them into recognisable urban outlines within her illustrations. Tsuen Wan Food like glutinous rice dumplings, rice noodles and ice cream take centre stage, weaving their way among buildings, neighbourhood landmarks, cats and passers by.

These works do not imagine a city from scratch. Instead, they rearrange places and flavours that already exist in our everyday life, allowing a familiar Tsuen Wan to be seen—and remembered—from a new perspective.

As people pass by, someone may recognise a familiar bowl of noodles in an illustration, or spot a cat that feels oddly recognisable. These details gently remind us that the stories of a city are often closer than we think.

Visitors are invited to walk along the footbridges and take time to appreciate the artworks—experiencing how art can enter everyday life, enliven urban space, and reveal the spirit of placemaking in quiet, unplanned moments.
