Veteran producer Stanley Kwan and young filmmaker Sasha Chuk swept the board at the 21st Hong Kong - Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF21) with Fly Me To The Moon, Chuk’s poignant feature tale of two sisters moving from Hunan to Hong Kong in the 1990s. The picture won an unprecedented four awards at the Forum, including the Chinachem-supported CCG Grand Award.

The film focuses on the girls as they struggle with a number of practical and emotional factors beyond their control, and it deals with how childhood memories shape our connections and impressions of ‘home’. Chuk dedicates the film to children who have experienced challenging relationships with parents, illustrating how a deeper understanding of life’s complexities can often help ease the pain of difficult childhood experiences.
In addition, Chuk’s work-in-progress film was selected for the ‘HAF Goes To Cannes’ initiative, providing an opportunity to showcase the project at one of the world’s premier film industry events.
Another sign that Hong Kong’s film industry is regaining momentum, HAF21 was held alongside the returning FILMART, Hong Kong’s international film and television market. This year’s event attracted close to 1,000 filmmakers and financiers from more than 35 countries and regions. As a platform for projects in development and works in progress, HAF plays an important role in supporting the industry’s future pipeline.
2023 marked Chinachem Group’s first active participation in HAF21, representing the beginning of a series of initiatives highlighting the importance of filmmaking in Hong Kong’s past, present and future. Film serves as a powerful medium through which communities express their identity, while also presenting the city’s culture, stories and values to audiences around the world.
