Chinachem Shuttle Tram “Hearts in Motion Ding! Ding! Ding!”

4,000 Seniors, Children and Underprivileged Families Will Join Unique Tram Rides Connect Hong Kong’s Heritage with Modern Developments
26 November 2021
Background

Hong Kong’s iconic trams have been in operation for over a century, carrying an average of about 200,000 passengers every day. Chinachem Group (the Group) launches a unique culture project for the community - “Hearts in Motion Ding! Ding! Ding!,” lasting 50 days from 26 November 2021, until 14 January 2022, with the support of various charity organisations and groups. More than 4,000 beneficiaries can take the Ding Ding tour free of charge, complemented by professional docent presentations, introducing the Island’s famous landmarks and their historical significance in order to provide an in-depth understanding and connection between Hong Kong’s past and present.

Supported by Yan Chai Hospital, Fu Hong Society, Tsuen Wan Kwai Ching Women’s Association, CLP Power Connect Programme and Child Development Matching Fund, the “Hearts in Motion Ding! Ding! Ding!” beneficiaries including many elderly residents, children, students and underprivileged families will get to hop aboard the unique tram and embark on the fascinating sightseeing tours to gaze out over bustling streets, ultra-modern skylines, and historic monuments, passing through Sheung Wan, Central, Admiralty, Wan Chai and Causeway Bay. Professional docents will be on hand to cite interesting Hong Kong stories and detail the particular characteristics of various neighbourhoods the tram passes. Highlights along the route will include Statue Square, Court of Final Appeal and other antique architectural landmarks as well as modern green commercial buildings like One Hennessy, One and Two Chinachem Central, and others.

The tram tour will also make a stop near the Central Market to allow a visit to this brand new conservation and revitalisation project, which is regarded as a vibrant community hotspot that combines “Approachable”, “Energetic” and “Gregarious” for preserving collective local memories and bringing a new experience to everyone.

“Based on our philosophy of creating - ‘Places with Heart’, we understand the importance of inclusiveness and sharing the love and passion we have for our neighbourhoods. By organising various projects, we want to demonstrate our concern for society and create shared values,” said a representative from Chinachem Group. “As one of our major culture projects for the community this year, ‘Hearts in Motion Ding! Ding! Ding!’ allows those who are in need to enjoy a tram ride on an environmentally friendly mode of transport while also introducing both the latest urban developments and historic places of interest in our city. The aim is to help the community enhance their understanding and appreciation for heritage conservation, sustainability and placemaking.”

Dr. Bernard Chan Pak-li, Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, was invited as guest of honour at the kick-off ceremony. He said - “People from different social backgrounds will be taking tram rides over the next 50 days to enjoy the unique aspects of Hong Kong’s urban neighbourhoods while gaining a better understanding about cultural conservation as well as the economic development we’ve achieved. I’m truly grateful for the heartfelt dedication of so many people, enterprises and organisations that have not only achieved excellent performance, but also have proactively given back to society. Despite today’s relatively difficult circumstances, they have executed a host of different projects that support various segments in need and graciously added value to society at large. Today Hong Kong needs the positive impact that comes from altruistic commitment, perseverance and dedication to help the less fortunate. The efforts of so many are helping us move forward as well as build a harmonious and inclusive society with a human touch.”
