Chinachem Group kicked off its Green Christmas celebration at the "Wish to be – Renaissance of Used Lights " upcycled art exhibition last Friday (20 December), where distinguishedguest, The Hon Wong Kam-sing, Secretary for the Environment, and Donald Choi, Executive Director and CEO of Chinachem Group jointly performed the opening ceremony. Afterwards, Dr Chan Lai Kiu, the exhibition creator and curator, guided a tour for the Secretary and other distinguished guests.

With a theme of educating and engaging the public about upcycling, the exhibition uses upcycled items for Christmas decorations: a large-scale Santa hat made from used bedsheets and table clothes collected from L'hotel, as well as snowmen created with used towels from L’hotel.

The "Wish to be – Renaissance of Used Lights " upcycled art exhibition is a key component of “Light Upcycled Art for All” – the Group’s Christmas public art programme. The exhibition is curated by renowned architect and artist Dr Chan Lai Kiu. She has co-created it with 12 local artists and produced nine sets of art pieces. The exhibition is open for public viewing until late February 2020 at Shop 201, 2/F, Nina Mall 1. Guided tours are available daily at scheduled times.

As well as the upcycled art exhibition, light decorations and a series of environment-friendly workshops, the first phase of “Light Upcycled Art-for-All”, a citywide light bulb collection campaign, is still ongoing. The aim of the campaign is to collect 50,000 used light bulbs or Mission 50000 pledges with the ultimate goal of helping Hong Kong’s elderly population.
