Chinachem Group announced a donation to the Student Transformation Fund of the HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education (“HKU SPACE”).

The donation was announced during the Naming Ceremony of the Chinachem Group Lecture Room at HKU SPACE, officiated by Mr. Sunny Yeung, Executive Director and CEO of Chinachem Group and Professor William Lee, Director of HKU SPACE.

Speaking at the Naming Ceremony, Mr. Sunny Yeung reiterated commitment of the Group to support talent development in Hong Kong.

“The Chinachem Group sees education as an important ingredient in the successful transformation of our rapidly changing world”, Mr. Yeung said. “Our late Chairman, Madam Nina Kung stated that the Chinachem Charitable Foundation aims to ‘give back to the society from which we draw’. In this regard, I truly hope that the donation from the Group would not only ease the financial difficulties of many students, but also inspire them to enjoy the benefits of the bursary scheme to achieve their goals and reach their full potential in life explained rationale behind the donation.”

Importance of the donation to HKU SPACE was highlighted by Professor William Lee in his welcome speech. “Many individuals and companies who decide to assist young students are motivated by the University Grants Committee (UGC) Matching Grant Scheme, and prefer to make donations to public-funded universities. As a result, many students in self-financed institutions such as ours are less able to benefit from the public’s generosity. This is why I am so excited that the Chinachem Group has chosen to support HKU SPACE.”

The donation of HK$250,000, matched dollar-to-dollar by the Education Bureau, will support the Student Transformation Fund in its effort to aid full-time students with financial needs.

“This will make a huge difference to the students who will benefit and provide important encouragement to the awardees”, explained Professor Lee."
