Lung, a seasoned fossil restorationist and prehistoric animal re-constructor, is one of the few local experts in paleontology. Always fascinated by the aggressive appearance of dinosaurs since his childhood, Lung later went to the museums in mainland China to study and do research with experts, as well as participating in many local and overseas field surveys. Last year, he and the HKU Department of Earth Sciences discovered the city’s largest trace fossil and the largest ammonite (a kind of prehistoric marine life) fossil in Tolo Harbour. Referring to fossils as “silent books”, Lung said that we can explore our history from this 260-million-year-old trace fossil. “It is extremely precious and full of traces of living things, with the proofs of which organisms existed at that time and how.”
