Chinachem Celebrates the 20th Anniversary of Hong Kong Home Return

Background

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Chinachem Group organizes the My Sweet Home carnival today. Over more than half of a century, the Group’s development has been based in Hong Kong. The Group has grown with Hong Kong and its community, and it has a long term development in both economic and social aspects through capturing the great opportunities from the development in China. Today’s carnival was themed as Hong Kong unique culture, attracting a lot of Hong Kong people to participate and celebrate this significant milestone. It reflects the Group’s development, which based in Hong Kong as a home, and still having a heart and tie with China.

Dr. Kung Yan Sum of Chinachem Group said during his speech, “Hong Kong is the home of the Chinachem Group. We grow with Hong Kong, and we faced the ups and downs and shared the joy and sadness with Hong Kong people. Therefore, we proudly present this My Sweet Home Carnival to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong handover.” At the ceremony, Chinachem Group also pledged to create a better Hong Kong by investing more resources on sustainability and charitable causes‎.

The event’s kick-off ceremony was also officiated by other distinguished guests such as Ms. Yang Xiao Chan, Deputy Director-General of New Territories Sub-office of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong S.A.R.; Miss Jenny Yip, JP, District Officer (Tsuen Wan); Mr Chung Wai Ping, SBS, MH, Chairman of Tsuen Wan District Council; Mr. Chan Sai Kwong Chairman of The Federation of All Sectors of Tsuen Wan Co. Ltd; Mr. Chan Tat Ming, Neil (Superintendent), Assistant District Commander (Crime) of Tsuen Wan Police District; Mr. Wong Kwok Chun, Chairman of the District Social Welfare Officer (Tsuen Wan/Kwai Tsing), Social Welfare Department; Mr. Wong Wai Kit, Vice Chairman of the Tsuen Wan District Council; Mrs. Yim Tsui Yuk Shan, Chairman of Yan Chai Hospital Board Office and Mr. Leung Wai Kwong, Chief Executive of Yan Chai Hospital Board Office.

The carnival was filled with joyous moments. One of the photo-taking hotspots was the 10 uniquely Hong Kong inflatable art pieces designed by young local artists, including a 10-meter wide junk boat with slides, the Big Buddha, an egg tart, an egg waffle, a tram and more. Each inflatable is filled with Hong Kong characteristics. All these inflatables can be won through joining a silent auction, with proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in order to bring hopes and joy to our next generation.

In addition, there were family-friendly booths for face painting, grasshopper weaving, balloon art and more, where everyone had the opportunity to enjoy fun Hong Kong traditions. Participants were also treated to performances featuring young Hong Kong talent.
