Chinachem Actively Supports Social Workers Across Borders

09 May 2017
Background

Focused on its mission of caring for the community, Chinachem Group has for the past two years been an active supporter of a Social Workers Across Borders initiative to train 800 medical social workers to help the people in need.

After the horrific events caused by a series of explosions that rocked the port city of Tianjin in 2015 which claimed 173 lives and injured several hundred, the Social Workers Across Borders was compelled to develop its crisis intervention programme. Through this initiative, the organisation aims to assist local hospitals, colleges and volunteers by carrying out training and providing much needed operational support.

Under the programme, 10 professional training sessions have been successfully undertaken between 2015 and 2016. The sessions, which are aimed at medical social workers and Tianjin City volunteers, also include decompression training and other supplementary services.

In March 2016, the medical social workers station under the General Hospital of Tianjin Medical University was officially established, giving impetus to the programme which continues to offer much needed support and professional development opportunities for medical social workers.
