For the second consecutive year, Chinachem Group and the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra (HKCO) joined forces to “connect the community through drumming,” resulting in a vibrant celebration of rhythm, wellness, and cultural connection.
Initially sparked in 2023, this partnership between a major property developer and one of Hong Kong’s leading orchestras has flourished. Chinachem Group has always been deeply connected to the community. In addition to developing community and tourism landmarks such as Central Market and Nina Park, the Group also sought a meaningful way to engage the public and its more than 4,000 employees. Meanwhile, HKCO’s outreach programme, originally designed to offer therapeutic relief to carers through music, expanded its vision to include all 18 districts of Hong Kong. The result: a drumming movement that captured the city’s heart.
Over two years, more than 1,000 volunteer hours have been donated, with nearly 3,500 community members participating in workshops and events. District drum teams blossomed, with approximately 1,500 members recruited across 2023 and 2024. In 2024 alone, eight District Drum Events engaged 2,676 participants, while the CCG Hearts Concert and Drum Carnival drew an impressive 31,000 attendees—almost doubling the previous year’s turnout.
Rewardingly, the impact of this initiative extends well beyond numbers. In the social impact assessment, over 90% of participants discovered new health benefits through drumming, more than 90% reported greater cultural awareness and appreciation, and over 85% felt a stronger connection to their community.
The collaboration culminated in the spectacular “One Beat One World” concerts held at the West Kowloon Cultural District, featuring performers from across Asia. Beamed live globally, the concerts inspired more than 50,000 physical attendees across two years, with an additional 1.5 million tuning in online.
Led by HKCO’s Artistic Director Yan Huichang, the final performances saw tens of thousands join in, drumming together with Bolan Gu rattles, united by the universal language of rhythm. Once again, Chinachem Group and the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra have demonstrated the transformative power of community, culture, and a shared beat.
