Chinachem Group has teamed up with Hysan Development to offer their joint-venture Caroline Hill Road Site to the Hong Kong Government to launch a pop-up vaccination centre in Causeway Bay, the largest within a private property portfolio with a total of 18 booths.

In a bid to boost vaccination as Hong Kong battled against the fifth wave of COVID-19, Hysan joined hands with the government’s Civil Service Bureau (CSB) in February 2022 to set up the first landlord-sponsored community vaccination centre in Leighton Centre, while Chinachem organised a community vaccination day with the Tsuen Wan District Office at its Nina Hotel Tsuen Wan West. Encouraged by the popularity of these prime location facilities, Hysan and Chinachem proposed the much larger Caroline Hill Road site to CSB for vaccination use. With the Government’s full support and contribution from an elite team of professionals with backgrounds from design to construction, this high-quality temporary vaccination centre was set up in less than three weeks. Construction and set-up expenses were borne by Hysan and Chinachem.

“We are so proud of the team for planning and completing this project within a very short period of time,” said Mr. Ricky Lui, Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of Hysan Development. “This is a perfect example of everyone focusing on one cause for the good of Hong Kong and delivering when and where it is needed. We showed immense team spirit and an essential Hong Kong Can-Do spirit! A huge thank you to all the partners!”

“In line with our vision for the Caroline Hill Road site to become an urban oasis in Causeway Bay, this also demonstrates Hysan’s wish to use its prime portfolio to support the community during times of need,” Mr. Lui added.

Mr. Donald Choi, Executive Director and CEO of Chinachem Group said, “Chinachem Group is strongly committed to the community throughout the pandemic and is working alongside the public to help them combat its impact. Apart from making donations, the Group utilises its property spaces to set up community facilities to support society in fighting the virus. We have now teamed up with Hysan Development to offer the convenient Caroline Hill Road site for the Government to set up the largest community vaccination centre on private land in a very short period of time. The centre is expected to be capable of serving several hundred thousands of citizens, which we believe could help boost the vaccination rate and hence speed up the city’s recovery.”

Chinachem and Hysan are proud of the quality facilities at the vaccination centre, which was constructed in an exceptionally short period of just 18 days and set to provide a smooth and comfortable experience for users. Gammon Construction, which also sponsored the initiative, took the lead in the construction work of the temporary vaccination centre using pre-fabricated containers, working alongside other partners including Ove Arup & Partners Hong Kong, Ronald Lu and Partners and WSP. The site was handed over to the Hong Kong Government on 24th March 2022, and the centre will begin operations on 29th March, running for three months until the end of June.
