The Chinachem Eco-Walk 2017 (formerly known as the Chinachem Walkathon), one of the largest single-day eco activities in Hong Kong, was successfully held in Stanley today. This year, 3,000 participants took part in the Eco-Walk where they explored the local scenery and cultural heritage of Stanley to support sustainable community development.

The event's kick-off ceremony was officiated by distinguished guests such as Dr. Ko Wing-Man, BBS, JP, Ms. Josephine Lee, Deputy CEO of St. James' Settlement as well as Dr. Kung Yan Sum of Chinachem Group.

During the event, participants were also given opportunities to learn about Hong Kong's cultural history through various interactive activities. This year, Eco-Walk participants had the chance to take part in specially designed games and enjoy a variety of live shows which added colour and vibrancy to Stanley.

Since its debut in 2011, the Eco-Walk has attracted over 20,000 participants. Each year, the events encourage the public to participate in eco activities around Hong Kong. This year, Eco-Walk participants had the option of completing either a 2.6 kilometre route or a 5 kilometre route. Along both routes, professional and junior eco-tour guides told stories about Stanley's past, highlighting the importance of preserving its unique landmarks and historical architecture. Looking into the past allowed attendees to learn why sustainability is an essential part of Hong Kong's future development.

Registration for the Eco-Walk 2017 required a minimum contribution of HK$1 per participant. This year's proceeds benefit St. James' Settlement and the People's Food Bank in their efforts to address poverty in Hong Kong. Every HK$100 donated through the Eco-Walk contributes nine meals to those in need – directly benefiting local communities in Hong Kong. In doing this, the annual event hopes to encourage the public to treasure food by avoiding food waste.

Dr. Kung Yan Sum said during his speech, "This year's event combined the power of the old and the young in a bid to pass down Hong Kong's culture as well as to reflect on the event's motto, "Walk for Tomorrow." I would like to take this opportunity to thank each of the participants for joining hands with us in support of the Chinachem Eco-Walk."

Ms. Josephine Lee, Deputy CEO of St. James' Settlement said, "The public is gradually adopting a more proactive approach to support sustainable development and we believe that with Eco-Walk we can enrich the public's knowledge on such matters. We thank all of you who have decided to take part in the today’s event as public participation is the key to creating a better future."

Not only did Eco-Walk receive enthusiastic support from the public, they were fortunate to have Canon Inc. and Gammon Construction Limited as gold sponsors, and Currie & Brown, Ford, Kwan & Company, Hanison Construction Holding Limited, JLL, Kin Wing Engineering Co. Ltd, Knight Frank, Midland Holdings, Ricacorp Properties, R&R Publishing, Wong & Ouyang HK Ltd. and Yan Chai Hospital as silver sponsors. Chinachem also expresses its sincere thanks to Link Reit, Nina Tower, Stanley Plaza, and Gwulo.com for their support of Eco-Walk 2017.
